RECIPE:

-1/4 cup TSP (TriSodiumPhosphate)

-1/4 cup detergent

-1 cup bleach

-1 gallon hot water

You may need to adjust the measurements to achieve satisfactory cleaning, they are not written in stone. The best way that we have found to clean clay tile is to apply a power wash using a solution of TSP, (found at your local hardware), laundry detergent and bleach. Mix the ingredients with hot water, spray on, and then rinse well with clear water. This solution will clean most surface dirt.

However, some troublesome stains (particularly those produced by industrial pollution) are very difficult to remove, and may require hiring restoration-cleaning experts who specialize in the removal of pollution contaminants.

Good luck with your project. We would appreciate hearing about your results and also would like to receive any comments or cleaning suggestions you may have discovered!

*If you are cleaning tile that is currently installed on a roof, please be advised that the above solution is quite slippery, and falling is a potential hazard. We have only had experience with cleaning tile on the ground, but numerous professional roofers have brought this safety concern to our attention. Therefore, we advise you to contact professional help in order to clean any roofing tile that cannot be reached by standing on the ground and using power wash equipment to do the job.
