This French Chalet provides a sublime example

French Tile is approximately 16 1/4" x 9". In the application there are 133 pieces to the square with an average weight of 935 lbs. per square. The recommended exposure is 13 3/8" X 8 1/8". The trim pieces normally used with French Tile are the same as those used with Spanish or Straight Barrel Mission Tiles - without the Top Fixtures and Under Eaves.

The Glass Tiles used in skylights are no longer commonly manufactured in this country. We only have a few available for restoration purposes such as those shown in the New York home at right. (close-up shown below-right)

The Vintage colors found in French Tile are; the Smooth Red Range, the Dull Green Range, the Glazed Brookville Green Range and the Glazed Fox Fire Red Range

Glass tiles are rare - with luck limited quantities may be found for restoration purposes

(Above Left:) When the owner of this apartment contacted us for help in replacing broken bugle hip pieces we went to work locating these rare beauties. The original tile was manufactured in Ludowici GA, and the color was "pinky orange." We did locate her Bugle Hips and in the unusual pinky orange called "dixie slip." These Georgian tiles are known as "southern tiles" because the mud would not burn hard enough to withstand extreme freeze/thaw conditions. The tilery was closed in the early 1900's and Vintage replacement tiles are limited.
