The Great Barrel Tiles...
Romantic and nostalgic, barrel tiles were once made by potters molding and smoothing handfuls of clay over their thighs or over a log. The half-rounded shapes were then "baked" in the sun before application.
As seen in the accompanying photos, the subtlety blended colors of these tiles change continually throughout each day creating a moving tapestry.
Picturesque and historical ... the Barrel Tiles have never, simply never, been surpassed!

Right: Tapered Barrel Mission Tile or Straight Barrel Mission Tiles consist of two pieces .. a pan and a cover.
The "cover" tiles overlap the inverted "pan' tiles when applied.
Pantile, Spanish Tile or "S" Tile is the combination of a pan and a cover into to a one-piece tile which is installed by overlapping each tile.
The Interlocking Barrel Tile is curved and features interlocking channels for application. The color is Sable (also seen in the photo of the pool side dwelling - far right).

One of the most wonderful aspects of clay roofing tile is it's ability to capture a wide range of colors, ranging from subtle hues to warm earthy tones, to bold glazed primary colors. See them yourself at our Clay Tile Colors page!
At right: the randomly-placed "lichens" perfectly compliment the deep, ruddy tones and pitted surfaces of these versatile slab tiles reminiscent of the English countryside.
Thank you for visiting with The Tile Man. If we can be of any service to you, please contact us. We offer you and your clients 50 years of experience in Clay Roofing Tile. We'd like to leave you with an outstanding picture to remember - of course it's a clay tile roof!

San Francisco's historic Arden Place is getting a "roof-lift" with new Interlocking Clay Tiles (the application is shown above). The lovely varied color blend selected is the appropriate Franciscan Blend.
Rectangular clay tiles may be called flat shingle, slab shingle or simply, 'plain' tiles - although the photos shown (to the left and above) rather belie that term!
They are often given different surface treatments that may catch the sunlight and create flickering, deep or even moving shadows.
The butt lines may be smooth and level, or, they may be warped a bit and produce an interesting variation on an otherwise long and straight vertical line of the roof.
Their colors vary from cultivated, earthy, mossy tones to the boldness of richly colored, highly glazed statements.
Clay tile - an investment that lives on - and on - improving by developing the desired patina of age. Among our selections, we offer varying price ranges, but never varying quality. The differences are quite subtle generally reflecting personal preferences. |
Clay tile - the look you want and the look your home deserves. Browse through these images and let us know which tiles appeal to you and to your dwelling. |
