The tiles shown below are called "Book" tiles as a literal description of
their diminutive size. These interlocking tiles were prevalent in the 1920’s
and 1930’s.
They were manufactured by the then Ludowici-Celadon Company in the
standard colors of Pure Oil Blue (remember the old gas stations), Dull Green
and Clay Red. The Dull Green color may also have yellow antimony spots.

Old, gnarly, mossy slab shingle tiles are always in demand.
These tiles may date from the 1800’s through the early 1900’s because this
pattern has always been standard. Many smaller tileries along the East Coast
manufactured various slab shingle tiles of excellent, lasting quality.
The colors range from Clay Reds, Browns, Blacks and even Buff tones.
|
Although there are pattern differences among the various Slab Shingles, if
their quality is good they are all desirable.

This tile - Spanish Smooth Red - does not really require an introduction. It
is probably one of the best known patterns in the world (second only to
Barrel Tile).
Because of this, the demand for "Vintage" Spanish Tile is constant so we are
always interested in increasing our stock.

A Beautiful but Hard-to-Find Tile!
We are searching for B. Mifflin Hood Clay Tiles. These were produced in
Daisy, Tennessee in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. During World War II,
the plant discontinued tile manufacture and produced clay targets for
military practice. Unfortunately, this plant was later completely destroyed
by a fire that some suspected to be sabotage.
|
This exceptional tile was manufactured in two patterns, interlocking and a
wire-scored flat shingle. The prevalent color is Red/Brown although a few
Mossy Greens can be found. There are some size variations in the flat
shingle tiles that are acceptable.
